Soil Conservation

The USDA’s Farm Service Agency adheres to the largest public-private conservation partnership in the United States. It is responsible for 450 million tons of erosion reduction per year. There have been 2 million acres of wetlands and adjacent buffers restored. The United States has seen a reduction of 48 million metric tons of carbon dioxide along with 170,000 stream miles that have been protected.

Through the Conservation Reserve Program, producers help protect environmentally sensitive land, decrease erosion, restore wildlife habitat, and safeguard surface and ground water. The Enhancement Program offered through the CRP targets high-priority conservation issues of both local and national significance through their partnership with States. The Farmable Wetlands Program protects farmed and prior-converted wetlands. The CRP offers a variety of Programs tailored to fit the environmental needs that are expressed throughout the United States. For more information please visit www.fsa.usda.gov.
